Trippin on HDR

Well, I’ve been back from travelling for nearly a week now, and am only just getting organized. I plan to post a full summary of my and my friend Cory’s summer travels around China’s tourist triangle, just as soon as I get all my photos organized.

To tide things over, here are a few photos from our trip that I shot with an eye towards converting them to High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. HDR photography is a method of processing images to “accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows…

Summertime and the livin’s easy

So summer’s definitely here – I know this because when I’m outside for more than a few minutes everything gets blurry and my skin starts to melt. I’m Canadian — +40°C weather is something for fairytales of where the old folks go come winter.

Of course it’s the perfect time to take a holiday and trek around the country — so that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing next week and the week after.

‘Best Band in Beijing’ coming to Suzhou

Woodie AlanJust got word that Woodie Alan, the band City Weekend calls the “Best Band in Beijing”, is coming to Suzhou for a one show performance on Friday night.

The show’s taking place at J&J Restaurant (No.5, Block 11, Horizon Resort II, SIP) and runs from 9 until 11. Whether such a spot will fit the smokey jam-band blues of Woodie Alan has yet to be seen.…

Beijing Blacklisting Blacks?

So, story goes – sometime yesterday afternoon both Shanghaiist and Beijing Boyce reported on a South China Morning Post article by Tom Miller entitled “Authorities order bars not to serve black people”.

Mrs. Granite Studio (YJ), Danwei, Beijing Boyce and a number of others have jumped to the call and found no evidence that supports the SCMP article.

Am I the only one sitting back and scratching my head feeling, whether true or not, this isn’t half the big news that it is being made out to be?

Maybe I’m a fool, but there’s just no way…

Why jocks shouldn’t write politics or culture

Alright, I’ve shared my criticisms of Beijing getting the Olympics and how they have grossly failed to meet the standards to which they agreed upon when first winning the bid, but holy fuck, please tell me America that this this Bible-dribbling, fact-passing, jock-itch of a moron isn’t speaking for the rest of you.

From his recent article entitled ‘Fanning the flame of controversy‘:

“In less draconian concerns, the pollution is said to be horrific, the food untrustworthy and just recently the Chinese began installing that cutting-edge technology known as the “sit toilet” at some venues after discovering that
