I think a good, if not terribly scientific, gauge for measuring the pollution index is whether you can sleep with the window open and not hock lugies the next day.

Personally, I can see all kinds of things when I look outside my window. (Well, actually, it's raining today, so visibility isn't at normal depths). But, what's most important to me is that when I look up, I can often see, if not true blue, at least a blue hue backdrop to a flying kite. Try doing that in Qingdao... without the cloud dispersal chemicals.

Thanks for your site! It's a doozie!

Fellow happybusser,
If you're interested in emissions trading, this recent study by Robert J. Shapiro might interest you.

That's pretty good news. I'll have to share it with the wife. She was born and raised in Jiangyin.

I agree with you about China's need to do something soon. The stronger it becomes economically and the more visible the country becomes the more critics that it'll have.

I'll definitely not argue that air pollution isn't rampant - but Suzhou is not a great benchmark as the climate tends to create a lot of fog/haze on its own. Though there's no shortage of man-made sky obscurers, it has just as much to do with the natural humidity levels in the area.
