I am having similar problems with our air conditioner / heater we purchased from Haier 45 days ago. We purchased a Haier product with the confidence that we would be taken care of if there was a problem. That has not been the case. We have been trying to have the machine fixed for most of that time. Three repairman have visited each with a different story. Now they have just stopped responding to our calls.
Tonight it is 8 degrees in our bedroom and i have taken a picture of my wife with our 23 day old son and the heater in the background. I am going to send them to the president of Haier. If nothing is done I will go "old school" canadian and make a nice big sign with the pictures and stand out front of the store that sold us the machine.

That's rough Jay. As much as I like the principle of dishwashers, I hate finding steamed-on food bits. You're likely better off.

Gome has a long way to go before they're anywhere close to the American bigbox stores (that are quickly moving into China).

Well, we tried to buy a Haier dish washer from GOME in Suzhou.
We paied cash around 3800 RMB in advance.
After the delivery time came close (4 weeks later), no dish washer was available in Suzhou.
After an other week, the guys at GOME told us that we can not get the dish washer from Haier directly. The HAIER sales guy at GOME contacted someone from an other company which could deliver the dish washer immediately, but without the warranty time we could normally get from GOME and we had to pay again before we could get the money back from GOME.
Finally, we gave up.
The money from GOME, we got it back after an other week.

I wash the dish by myself like before :-) and I am happy about my warranty which will hopefully last much longer than Haier can promiss for any of there stuff.

You know, a lots of guys in Suzhou told me that stuff from Japanis companies sold in PRC is low quality stuff and the high quality items are sold in Japan, EU and the rest of the world.
I just wonder, who is managing QS, QA, purchasing and so on in japanese companies located in China?

As far I know, the managers are mostly Chinese guys or not? :-)

Haier is starting to turn up in many stores in the US. I wonder how long they will last if they offer the same great customer support here. I haven't broken down and bought anything with the Haier name, but I may some day. I'll do it with open eyes though.

@hek: I hate buying electronics in China. (notice the 'period')

@CLB: Ya lost me. We didn't actually have to do anything to get out of the 20 RMB, we just called the boss (the company - upon telling us we needed to pay 20 RMB and us complaining and asking for it - gave us his number). He quickly made everything all right and said if we ever have problems again, to call him first.

Well, let's see. By my rough calculations, you earned maybe 5 RMB per hour fighting about 20 RMB. I think this means you have truly arrived.

you got a lemon DVD player, sux.
For some reason, the cheap no name DVD player that Steven and I got from Zhou Jun still works.
One thing that I have learned while living in China is that when purchasing an electronic item such as a DVD player, cell phone or computer is that cheap and expensive are different sides of the same coin.
