I’ve heard from a number of people that when you have a baby, you suddenly realize that everyone else is also having a baby. This has certainly been the case with me. From friends and family back home, to friends here in Suzhou, to friends out there in the blogsphere, everyone seems to be popping out lil’ ones.
And what a bonus for us it is. So much advice, sharing of experiences, and a healthy amount of warnings. So, to help propagate that knowledge, here are a few links from around the China blogsphere talking about having babies in China…

A while back I was approached by the fine folks at ChinaTravel.net, an English-language travel site about China that is “editorially independent” but strongly affiliated with Ctrip.com — one of China’s largest online travel booking Web sites.
The site’s editors wanted me to put together a summary article on “my Suzhou”, and as of last week it was published on the site. For anyone that’s ever asked my opinion about what to see while visiting Suzhou the content will feel familiar, as it generally just rehashes what I’ve suggested to people many many times over the years I’ve…

The article, written by Johann Hari, shocked me. I had never really put much thought into Dubai, more than knowing it was a common option for people living the expat life.
Hari does an excellent job of breaking down the success and seediness of the city state into multiple levels:
Karen, a…

I’ll be tweaking some design elements over the next little while, but the biggest change is that I’m now importing posts I write at all my blogs (Lost Laowai, The Tech Dynasty, Dao By Design and Tip Trick Mod) into my stream here.
Though this blog’s focus is primarily on…

Though I’m putting together a more in-depth summary of the tour for The Tech Dynasty, I thought I’d make a quick mention of the awesome experience here. A warning, massive linkbacking is about to occur – but you wont regret checking out any or all…

Many of you likely know my friend Rick Martin and his excellent blog, PandaPassport. You may also know Rick from his writings at the Little Red Blog on CNET Asia. Well, in an effort to hone his ninja skills, in about two weeks Rick leaves China and moves to Japan.
After I wiped away the tears and stopped shouting “NO YOU CAN’T LEAVE”, he asked if I would be interested in taking over the Little Red Blog, which is focused on technology as it relates to China – some may remember it was for a long time…

Just a quick note that if you’re using Skype in China, or more importantly, using a TOM-Skype (from skype.tom.com) download of the software, you should check out my most recent post on Lost Laowai: Chinese Skype privacy breech. If you are, or have chatted to anyone using the Chinese-version of Skype, there’s a good chance your conversations were searched for keywords and saved on a server that was found to be publicly accessible.
I’ve been super busy as late – first with my usual workload, but also spending much of my free time edumacating myself on personal finance. It’s amazing I’ve passed my 31st year on this planet and know next to nothing about saving and investing.
Anyway, time being tight I still wanted to jot down and share a few interesting things I’ve come across in the last few days.
Heard about this one from a Twitter newsletter – Scott Harrison is turning 33 this month, and to celebrate he isn’t going out and having a…

The other day an idea for a new site hit me, and as I was waiting for some deliverables from a client to arrive and didn’t have much to do, I figured – what the hell.
The site is called Twitfessions, and essentially it tracks and displays any Twitter tweets that are tagged with #confession. Basically it’s a fun way to relieve yourself of that little secret or unspoken sin you committed – in a very Web 2.0 way.
Twitter, for those that don’t know, is a micro-blogging service – so, instead of…

However, it’s officially the weekend, and I’m in the mood for some Olympic-sized funnies:
The Beijing Olympics: Are They A Trap?
Every time she says that “Oh, they’re going to wait until it gets dark, and they’re going to bring out their dragons” I pee a little.
Even more hilarious is that some couChinesegh folks on the YouTube page seem to think that ONN = CNN and missed that this is…

Just want to take a moment and brag about a cool new project I’ve been hard at work on: Danwei.TV.
Most foreign folks living in China, or with any interest in China, are bound to know Danwei.org, possibly the most widely-read English-language blog about China, and many of you have also likely watched Danwei-produced and -affiliated videos (Sexy Beijing, The Shanghai Beat, etc.).
Previously, all video content was constrained to the main Danwei.org site and its written-word layout, and though a Danwei.TV site had been set up, it operated in much the same way. But no longer!
It…

And in good Web meme fashion, the China Twitterati have come up with the #080808 campaign.
I first read about it from David Feng over at CNReviews after having seen everyone on my Twitter list 080808′ing their avatars.
It was started by Flypig and (as all things do on Twitter) spread rapidly from there.
Never one to shy away from a chance to flex my creative muscles for fun, I’ve whipped up my own little #080808 image.
If you’re not feeling…

As he’s helping me get my new Bag A Canuck!™ e-book business off the ground, I figured I should return the favour and officially announce his latest endeavor – Lonnie B. Hodge’s Panda Meat Emporium.
The business specializes in delivering panda meat, or Peef™, to an international market hungry for this rare delicacy. As many know, Lonnie is an award-winning poet. But don’t let his…

As long-time readers might be aware, my full-time gig isn’t witty Chinese commentary (some would argue it’s not even my part-time gig). To keep the lights on, I run a small design/web development firm that specializes in simple to operate CMS-based sites for SMEs.
When I kicked the biz off…

I’ll not reiterate it all here again, as I’ve already posted about it at Lost Laowai, but bare bones:
In an effort to tie together all us sinobloggers, we’re launching the China Blog Network, a (appropriately enough) network of China blogs that all link together in a ring-around-the-rosie style (we’re praying we don’t all fall down).
Though most of us link to each other through our blogrolls, I thought it might

It was the first “networking” event I’ve ever been to, and gave me a chance to whore myself a bit as well as finally put a dent in the massive pile of business cards I have.
But more than the business of it all, the dinner was a fantastic opportunity to finally put flesh and blood to the digital avatars that make up a big chunk of my friends, colleagues and acquaintances here in China. People I’ve know in some…

In fact, it was just that love for it all that led me to setup the Hao Hao Report, a way for the best stories about China to get more exposure.
However, in recent months I’ve been so swamped with other commitments that my blogxpeditions have become fewer and fewer, to the point where I do all I can just to keep all…
